My CMP service grade Saginaw S.G. M1 Carbine arrived yesterday! Once again, CMP comes through with a great gun, at a great price. The finish is perfect except a tiny bit of wear at the very end of the barrel, which looks like a little wear from a bayo. The wood is great, except a few dings that I could probably steam out easily, but I plan to leave them. For a WWII issue rifle, I think they add to it's character. All I have done to it was clean off some cosmoline/grease/grunge with a pot of boiling water and light scrubbing, then put a thin coat of lemon oil and beeswax wood preservative on it.Metal was just cleaned and lubed. I'm VERY happy!

I have been wanting an M1 Carbine for a while, but held out for the Saginaw one, as my dad was an engineer at Saginaw Steering Gear for 33 years before retiring. He was transferred there when I was 2, and I lived in Saginaw for the next 24 years, so this all adds something a little extra special and neat to an already cool rifle. I'm quite pleased with the condition for only $600 shipped. What a deal, IMHO.

Also amazed at how light and handy it is. For wood and steel, its lighter than my 16" M4, and just as handy!.Very cool guns. I see the appeal, and havent even fired it yet! Ammo, stock mag pouch, mag, and sling are already on thier way.Yippeee!:D

Saginaw S.G. M1 Carbine (Saginaw, not that Grand Rapids junk :neener:) looks to have been made in late '43 based on the serial number (Cant tell from the barrel markings, as it has a '43 Underwod barrel. I gather SG used all sorts of other makers barrels at times as a line/prodction "cleanup" measure, even though they made thier own too.)

I like the rack number on the stock.
Is that what that is? I figured it was an ID for a unit armorer, orsomething similar, but wasnt sure. Is that what you mean by "rack number"?
I worked on jets in the Navy,so military issue weapons and Army/Marine stuff is not my speciality.

I can fix the heck out of the electronics for the F-14's weapons systems though!:D

I just mailed off my order to CMP this morning for a Saginaw carbine. How long did it take for it to arrive?

My order was delvered to CMP on APR28th (the 1st day Saginaw orders were accepted), and I got it via Fedex May 27th. So almost exactly 1 month to the day. I have to say, I was stunned. Thats SCREAMING fast, since the 28th was the first day of orders for 4 or 5 types of carbines, so I would have to think they got a couple thousand orders that day alone. The people at CMP are just great, in every regard.
