M1/Failure to operate

Hi all,
What Major problem almost took all the M1 Garands out of action in 1942? What did Ordnance do to fix the problem?
This one is easy it's for the newbie's.

Hi all,
The answer to this one is rain. Ordnance found out that rain cause the oil on the bolt and oprod washed off and cause the bolt and oprod to lock up. Ordnance did alot of work on this to fix the problem. When Ordnance was sure it had the answer they took it to Mr. Garand and after he looked over all the weird things Ordnance wanted to do, he stated why not use grease. Ordnance had spent time and over 100,000 dollars to fix this problem and Mr. Garand fixed it for free!!
