Hi all,
Here's another one. Why in 1936 was Ordnance funds for the M1 Garand being cut and given to the Model of 1903 Program. The Programs funds was not to be used for new Production of Model 1903 Rifle. My quiz is why?? And where were these funds going? You older guys give the newbee's a chance for a answer.

Just a guess but,

1936 the M1 was not doing so well in the tests and some higher ups in the US realized that they had a shortage of readily avable service rifles so they cut funding to the M1 deal and put money into a program to rebuild the unserviceable 1903s to increase numbers.

Like I said, Just a guess right of the top of my head.

Hi all,
Here’s the answer to the Quiz:
“A supply of spare parts for all types of small arms is urgently needed for current peace time requirements as well as to provide for the early months of a war. Existing stocks are entirely inadequate even for peace time needs.â€
Thus funding was going to Ordnance for parts for all small arms but almost no funds to the M1 Garand Project. Springfield Armory had to go to each of the services with their hat in their hand to SELL to those services the M1 Garand and let Ordnance bill them before any guns have be built by production means.

ps Darkmind, you are Correct Sir

Darkmind, I am impressed. In all these years, I've never been able to answer Eclancy's questions. Muy estupido! :( I need to attend a firearms remediation course.
