Hi all,
Well a lot of you guys liked the M1/Model 1903 quiz. So if you don't like them read no further. This quiz comes in 3 parts and is very hard. You guys most try to answer all of the questions as they are very important. Ready, here goes:
When and where did the USMC do its main testing on the M1 Garand? Next when did the USMC adopt the M1 Garand Rifle? Last on the date the USMC adopted the M1 Garand approximately how many servicable Models of 1903 did the USMC have on hand? That last one is VERY Important.

Quiz, my '03 is more reliable because it has two ejection ports - what is it ?

Mete,

It's a 1903 Mark 1. Modified to be used with the Pederson Device.

Trebor , of course you're right .The commment about two ejection ports really confuses people ..

Hey Clancy,

So, what's the right answer to your quiz? I don't think I got all 3, if any.

Hi all,
First I would like to apologize for putting up these quiz question. You don't have the answers because this stuff has not been out there before. I have been told that my data files are only for people that have a true interest in the M1 Garand. Most people just want to know where the parts go? and how much is mine worth? This is not a flame it's just that people don't have an interest in the history of how all these weapons system got up and running into the production level. It is odd that I get no sales and the stuff is the ORDERS as is from Ordnance. Once again I apologize. Without the hits my sites will go down. Sorry about that.
The answers for this last quiz is are as folows:
Testing Nov. 12 to Dec. 21, 1940 at San Diego, Ca. Adopted on March 5, 1941.
"approximately 52,000 servicable M-1903 rifles"
Thanks again for taking the time and effort to read and reply to this.

ps Have fun people and enjoy your fine rifles.
pss Bob hope you enjoyed the books

Testing: Just wandering the streets of the city shooting pigeons, NTC-San Diego or what? I am not even sure what what there back in '40.

OK, a question for Clancy:

On another site, I stated that to the best of my knowledge, no Arctic or cold weather testing was ever done with either the M1 rifle or the Johnson M1941. There may have been cold room testing, but I never recall reading even of that. So, do your records indicate any winter testing of either rifle.

Jim

Mr. Keenan,
No. At this point in my research I have not found Ordnance files about cold weather testing on the M1 Garand. I know of that type of testing but without an Ordnance file to back it up I don't post that type of data. Sorry about that. I do have alot of files dealing with the rain problem which almost had the M1 Garands built with a weird op rod system.

I guess Korea doesn't count? :)

Eclancy-please keep posting the quizzes. I'm not a collector of M1's (I only have a beat up '43 Danish Springfield from CMP),but I do like getting the info from your answers.
regards,
Pshooter
