BTW, the top four of those rifles in my photo are wearing 'service grade' wood as received from CMP, with some spirit staining to make them match closer, and good old hand rubbed boiled linseed oil finishes.
When I was building Garands the palm of my left hand used to look like boiled lobster.
When I was in basic I had the best looking M14 in the platoon, so this stuff comes almost naturally I guess - call me linseed, not hayseed.
