M1 Itch

After fondling a couple buddy's M1s and thinking about it for too long, I have come to the conclusion its time to scratch my itch for one of these beauties. Problem is I don't know a whole lot about these guns.

I'd like a go-anywhere shooter, not a museum piece. Like wood, but fiberglass/composite is OK also. The more accurate the better and I don't mind spending the time to make the right ammo to feed it. Perfectly happy buying a basic gun and building it to my standards, but an off-the-shelf shooter is good also.

I won't buy a new gun manufactured by Springfield Arms ever again.

I'd appreciate suggestions on info resources, places to buy, which ones to buy/avoid, etc.

Two of my co-workers own M1As, and they plan to bring them to the Adobe shoot next month. Unfortunately, they're made by Springfield Armory.

Ken, today's lunch partner has a very nice M1 that was refurbed to a Natl. Match by SA 20 years ago. Gorgeous gun that shoots sub-MOA: that's what I'm looking for. I'll check out the M1As that your associates bring; who knows, maybe they'll be able to sway my feelings about SA's recent quality and service issues.

Sven, at this point, asking Jim or the other guys at Miltec for advice would be like an eight-grader asking Stephen Hawking for help on math homework. However, they are high on my list of gunnys to take to lunch and discuss this, as is Charles' dad. I do plan on keeping up with the status of your project. WHAT Adobe Shoot - Where?

I'm from higher ground than the members of this forum in the Santa Clara Vally, but I'm going to be in San Jose a whole lot in June... Got M1 (H&R Collectors Grade) got ammo, need excuse to evade responsability and shoot some 30cal.

Yep, CMP is the way to go.. But be careful, they are like Lays potato chips... I'mm waiting for #6 & & to arrive.

Picked up a pre-ban Polytech 14S a few weeks ago. My first .308 "battle rifle". Damn, is it fun to shoot. I did alot of research and I guess these Polytech's are good stuff.
