I know that its a good idea to leave the trigger guard unlatched in an M14/M1A that's going to be stored for a while in order to avoid crushing the wood through tension and variations in humidity.
But is this necessary with synthetic stocks, like the USGI fiberglass versions? Part of the appeal of such stocks is the fact that they aren't affected by humidity, but are they subject to compression after long storage with the trigger guard latch engaged?
Or are there any other reasons to leave the guard unlatched of which I'm unaware?
