Hey guys,

I purchased a Springfield M1A yesterday with the black synthetic stock with a rubber butt pad. My question is, will a metal hinged butt plate fit on the synthetic stock? I do not want to order one and not have it fit just right. Can not find anything on this... maybe my interwebbing skills are not proficient enough. Thanks

Will

It did not fit on mine - I ended up buying a wood stock from Fred's - see the shotgun news for Fred's add.

thanks for the input , i was thinking about getting one of freds stocks, do they come with the butt plate or are they separate?

I asked Springfield that very question a few years back, when those type stocks were popular, and was told yes, the standard M14 buttplate would fit.

The black synthetic stock that came with my SOCOM was in fact, a done over GI fiberglass stock. Springfield swore it wasnt when I called that time, but it was obvious as the gun was shot and the black paint started chipping off it was. You could also see where they filled the selector notch in, and the track for the linkage was still in place. They also ground off the molded in checkering of the grip and fore end, which made the grip to narrow for my liking.

I bought a number of fiberglass and walnut M14 stocks from Fred's too. Mine all came complete with the metal furniture, including the butt plate. Great prices and nice stocks. Here's my SOCOM with a couple on it......

im thinking about ordering a synthetic from fred's.

thank you both very much

If you are interested, I have a GI synthetic stock with steel butt plate. You'd probably need to repaint it, because right now it's blaze orange. PM me if interested. I've filled in the cheek piece holes.

I've got a M14 butt plate assembly, have both sets of screws for fiberglass and wooden stocks. Have a new one and a used one. let me know if interested.
