So I bought an M1D in mint condition. Never shot since coming from the CMP.

Fired the weapon twice and the scope fell off. Actually, the mounting screw was not fully seated in the female fitting.

The problem/question is:

The threads appear to be stripped on the female receiver on the barrel. I can push the scope mounting screw hard and get it to barely bite but not enough to screw firmly into the threads. Anybody have this problem or know what to do?

Sorry to barge in, but how did you get a M1D from CMP?

I'd love to get the chance to get a M1C or an M1D withouy paying $7000 to $10000 on the rifle with the optics and the other parts together.

Not to be too invasive, but how much did it cost?

Ken,

I'd have to go with the Helicoil. Or, you could also pull the mount off and build the hole up then redrill and rethread. Of course, you'd have to drop it in with the parkerizing and try to color match the best you can. If it's anything like my M1D, it won't matter much as the color is probably off anyhow. You can also call the CMP and see if they have any surplus mounts hanging around. I've had good luck with calling and asking even though you might not have been the one who got it from the CMP in the first place.

TGI:

There are only a few ways to get one from the CMP....

#1 You could win one.
#2 You won a CMP lottery.
#3 You bought it from the CMP auction.

I have never seen one on the CMP auction site though. This year during the Nationals, they had a M1D up for raffle.

Most of the CMP Sniper's that come up for auction on the CMP site, are plugged M1C receivers.

I'd be hollaring at the guy you bought it from.

M1D's go from $1800-4000 depending on condition and whether it's got CMP paperwork behind it.

The last M1D lottery was in July 1999 (for either $950 or $1200). They had a batch of around 50 or so that they sold on the Auction page last year, but nothing really since then.

M1d

it was bought from a local dealer who bought a collection. Parkerizing is quite uniform. BC can give price if he so desires, but he got a good price.

What is helicoil?

They're used to repair damaged threads.

Heli-Coil® inserts are precision formed screw thread coils of stainless steel wire having a diamond shaped cross section. When they are installed into Heli-Coil® tapped holes, they provide permanent conventional 60' internal screw threads that accommodate any standard bolt or screw. All related tooling such as STI Taps, hand and power installation tools, gages and tang break-off tools are also available. Typical Applications would include: Automotive,Communication, Aerospace, Military and the Defense industries

Helicoils are great in Aluminum castings and milled parts which have had their threads beat up. Don't know what they cost, the Gov'mnt paid for the ones I installed.
