I have a 15 year old 12 gauge M1S90 28" hunting gun. I shoot approximately 500 rounds a year.

How long should this gun last?

Last December, I had the barrel ring shear off the gun on a duck hunt. Benelli repaired it at no charge. Just last week, I took it out and the sling swivel broke off the magazine cap.

I take very, very good care of my guns. But, I am hoping that the gun isn't just starting to fall apart.

I think about 501 rounds. Tell you what, I will give you $10 PLUS pay for the shipping to get rid of that lemon you got there!

Kidding, of course (though I would give you $15 for it).

I have an M1Super90 Tactical that has about 1000 rounds of slugs, buck, and bird, without even a hick-up. I would say many thousands of rounds in their life would be normal. The Marines use the M4, so I would suggest the M1 will out live you!

You have had some unsual failures though.

Would you expect to drive a car for 15 years without doing any mechanical upkeep on it? The shotgun is a mechanical beast and as such will have parts break just and any mechanical with moving parts will. If you take care of worn parts the gun will last for another 50 years.

A sling swivel breaking off is a very minor inconvenience. Another magazine cap will most likely run you less than $50, but it isn't even necessary to replace it unless you use a sling as it is purely cosmetic otherwise.

I suspect the gun will last much longer and many thousand more rounds
