M4

A "classic" M4gery's by it's nature is not acceptable in NY state as it would then have 3 "evil" features, not the acceptable 2 evil features.

Too wit

Semi-automatic rifle with
Detachable mag
"Pistol" grip

Collapsible stock is not acceptable as it exceeds the acceptable number of features.

If it was made before 13 SEP 1994 it can have all the evil features you want :)

The best bet is just get a full length model, CT has a similar law.

You may want to also look into whether you'd be good to get a stock pinned open/shut so it can't be adjusted, personally I wouldn't because it's just asking for trouble, but it may be legal technically.

everallm - i came across this as i was searching for an alternative to the m4 and it looks great, except for the part about the 10 rd mag...

Smith & Wesson has MP15 versions that are NYS compliant- see their website. You can also find a pre '94 complete rifle with a telescopic stock and replace the upper with a 14.5" bbl and perminant flashhider from Noveske- which has an unknown # week wait time. That's about as close to an M4 you can get.

Just get a pre-ban. Then you can have it anyway you want. Buy a pre-1994 Colt Sporter and add the upper and collapsible stock. Buy pre-ban mags for it. If they're not marked and made of metal, assume pre-ban.
