Thanks to everyone that responded in earlier threads. 1st, I tried some new ammo (brass cased 7.62x54R 150gr sp) in my M44 and 2nd, I put a slip on recoil pad onto the gun.

SUCCESS!

3" groups at 100 yards, sights were pretty well regulated, basically POA=POI at 100 yards.

Gigantic Fireballs. A young lad was with his dad next to me firing a 22. I didn't want to completely scar the kid so I didn't shoot when he was on the line. Kid was sitting behind me and I touched one off. Huge fireball, huge boom (though the short barreled AR next to me was just as loud...it didn't have the additional concussion blast) and every time I shot the kid would go "awesome" or "cool".

I think I heard at least 7 times, "What IS that?!"

The range officer was straightening one of the other lanes when I touched off a round. He looked at me like I was crazy...when I asked if he wanted to try it he said "no thanks".

Another guy was shooting also short barreled AR, then switched to a .30-'06 and he said he was a little jealous of the fireball going beyond the bayonet. (yes, bayonet extended).

No one wanted to try shooting it though...yes I did offer to anyone that asked.

Put 40 rounds through it, could have shot more, great setup. Can't wait to get some dies and start reloading.

Icing on the cake were the "decent" groups at 100 yards with the stock iron sights which my eyes can "barely" see. Some Mojo sights may be in the works.

That beats my m44 by a long shot. I still don't know why people find the recoil hard to manage on the thing. I think its a cinch.

I get the same reaction with my wz 48 trainer styled to look like a Mosin. I get on the line and the range officers and shooters in the know seem to "get ready" for it, running for cover, moving a few lanes over, etc. Then I pull the trigger on a .22LR people and are seriously confused. :)

I'm not going to lie, the recoil before I put on the recoil pad and switched to the light ball weight REALLY beat me up. 5 shots would be black and blue.

(Summer in TX means only t-shirts and shooting was from a bench so no way to "roll" with the recoil).

150gr + recoil pad and I could really shoot it all day. 40 rounds though and I hit the point of diminishing returns and knew that I would get anything else out of the session.

The PRVI stuff measured 0.3115" so it was well sized for the bore. The brass looks like it will be great for reloading.

My goal on this gun with handloads and apperature sights is 2MOA, which after yesterday I think is very possible.

I love these mosina rifles. It is the most fun you can have, and it is budget priced to boot. The concussion causes flinching all around, but then so too does the brake on my 308.

Keep it up and enjoy.

If you think a stock M44 is loud, then put one of those pin-on compensators (they dont really work) on. The one I had sounded like a cannon going off with that thing on.
