My Russian M44 doesn't feed properly and I believe I know why.
I'm somewhat confident the problem is likely either a worn location on the bolt (where it contacts and disengages the feed interrupter) or the feed interrupter itself.

When I place the rounds in the magazine, the feed interrupter will not allow the cartridges to position in line with the bolt face and chamber to feed. However, if I press on the feed interrupter, the round pops into position.

I plan on borrowing a friend's bolt from his Russian M44 (that does not have this problem) and seeing if my problem continues with his M44's bolt in place. If so, I'm going to assume it's a worn feed interrupter. If the problem disappears, I'm going to purchase a replacement bolt. Does this sound like a reasonable way of accurately determining which part is at fault? Any tips are most welcome.

If the feed interrupter does turn out to be the culprit, is this part a "drop-in" component or an otherwise easy project, or is it high-ranking on the PITA scale?

I searched the internet, but the only exploded diagram I could find for the Nagant wasn't too helpful in helping me determining an answer to this particular question.

Any other opinions as to potential culprits to this feed failure would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

Probably not the bolt...most likely the feed interupter has issues. Could be weak/broken spring or 'gunky' interupter.

If you swap bolts, don't fire the rifle without checking headspace.

Thanks for pointing that out, it's not something I would have thought of.
I'm getting the bolt tomorrow. If the problem still occures, I'm going to just go ahead and replace the interrupter.

Greetings et al,

Another thought - when I purchased a Chi-Com M53 version of the M44 I ran into a feeding problem as well. Like mentioned above I traced the problem to the interrupter - someone in the past had put it back into the gun backwards. Once I turned it around - voila! - working Commie gun goodness.
