M44

I finally decided to get a Mosin Nagant M44. Actually it is for my son who celebrated his 16th Bday. We will get it on the end of the month. This will be our first surplus rifle. How do I remove the cosmoline and any links on how to clean the bolt?

There were 2 rifles left at the store and one have matching serial numbers but there was a big, deep ding on the crown. The other one have is refurbished (right term?) but the barrel is good and the crown smooth. I decided on the non-matching one.

One thing that wasn't clear on the surplusrifle site about assembling the bolt:

After you screw the firing pin into the cocking piece, you may have to unscrew it just a little to get the scribed marks on the cocking piece to line up with the notch in the firing pin. Less than half a turn will do it. Otherwise, the rest of the assembly may not work.

Thanks for the replies and links. We don't have the time yet to shoot this rifle yet. In fact I got an M38 for myself when we get the M44. I should have done that the when I bought the M44, save me some money for the DROS processing.
