I got this 2 position safety on an annealed, machined, and re blued shroud from gunsmith Jim Kobe, who made it.

Two hours to install it on the bolt body the first time with skinned knuckles, but now I know how to install it in one minute. I have blood blisters and cuts too. I know how to take apart a Mauser military bolt with 3 positions, but with two, the safe position is locked and the fire position is not. So I had to assemble with the cocking piece cock eyed.

Those swing safties!

The best thing since apple pie.

If a Mauser has I low mount safety, and doesn't wear a scope, and you carry it slung on your shoulder, spend the money, you won't regret it!

And putting a penny between the cooking piece and the shroud, once the bolt is together pull the penny, no muss no fuss!

are you saying that a mauser 98 shroud can be replaced with a m70 safty shroud???

Model 70 style safety

NO!

There are aftermarket parts, to put that style of safety on a mauser, even some new shrouds that are made for the Mauser, but look very much like they came off a M70.

The one being written about here is a mod to an original shroud and done right is very nice!

Brownells sells both

Either the kit with the parts for installing once the shroud has been machined,

Or a new Shroud with the (S)WIng safety, it looks very much like a M70 shroud, the suggested retail is something like $175.00, and fitting is going to required, amost all fitting is going to be fitting the safety.
