Could someone please inform me as to when Ruger changed the tang safety? My father owns a m77 in which the bolt can only be opened with the safety in the fire position. I myself own a m77 purchased new in approximately 1990 in which the bolt can be opened in either position (safe or fire). Any feedback is appreciated. Thanx! Lunker77

Sorry I can't date it.
But I do remember when both Ruger & Remington took the bolt lock part of the two-position safety off for liability reasons.
I just can't remember the exact years.
Seems like maybe the late 80's but thats just a WAG.
There should be some Ruger experts around here someplace that will know for sure.
I do know the MkII with the three-position safety came out in 1991 and the tang safety went away.
