Today I decided to go into this gun store near my new apt to check it out and maybe pick up some ammo. Figured I'd kill some time so I went and browsed their gun selection. Now I've been meaning to get a smaller gun thats more suited for concealed carry as I own a fullsize 1911 (DW PM7 10mm) and a Glock22 and neither conceal too well in Phoenix during this time of year. I had been thinking before hand that I wanted something small enough I could have the option of pocket carry. But when I saw this beauty, I just couldn't resist. I HAD to walk out with it. Here's my brand new SA GI Champion:D. It came w/ the Walnut US grips but I just couldn't help putting on these grips I just got in the mail for my DW. With any luck I'll be able to hit the range sometime this week and see how it performs.

I almost bought one of those at my last gun show. The only thing that kept me from doing so was the fact that the front sight is fixed to the slide, which would make installing night sights a bit of a PITA. Other than that, it's a great gun. I fired my friend's GI full size at the range a couple of times and I was very impressed -- especially for a 1911 that's less than $600. I think you made a good purchase there.

yeah, and as far as I know, all Springfield Armory weapons are made in Brazil

They're good guns, just not really for me. Don't me wrong, I do prefer a 1911, but I don't like those low fixed GI sights. I find them hard to pick up quickly. Also, I prefer a beavertail safety. I've got very big hands and I will get clipped without it. Aesthetically I do like the looks, but on the other hand I'm not much of a history buff, and generally I'll take modern design advances over classic styling. Different guns for different folks. :)
Enjoy it, should be a great gun.
