I have a Daewoo [sic?] DP 51 that keeps dropping the mag when the gun is fired. The mag catch shows a little wear. Is there any fix for this other than replacement? The part is hard to come by.

I don't know how many magazines you have for the gun but if it is doing it with only one specific magazine you may consider replacing just the magazine.
You may also look at the magazine catch slots and see if they are becoming burred.
Light stoning on the magazines may correct the problem.

Thanks, Onmilo.
I'll check and see if one mag. does it worse than the other. I might even try wrenching out the top edge of the slot to see if that helps.

Mag catch

Most occasions of this malfunction that I have encountered have been resolved by installing a stronger Mag catch spring as they seem to have been initiated by the shooter bumping the mag catch button during recoil or by the recoil itself. In most instances the shooter would swear that he was not the problem but in any case the problem disappeared with the stronger spring.

I had this problem on my Witness, on all mags. It was the mag catch, not the mags.

Lock the breech open and drop your mag and peer into the mag well with a good light and see if the shoulders of the mag catch are protruding into the mag well. This was the issue with my witness. I moved the shoulders back on either side of the catch a little with a dremel, problem gone.

Your magazine is being jolted by the recoil, and since these shoulders are touching the magazine, it's just enough to get the mag release to move enough to drop your magazine out.

Trust me on this one, it took me a while to figure out, but it was THE FIX for my Witness.

Hope this helps.
