I just bought a Ruger P95...Opened the nice blue case and the factory extra mag thats inside has a black metal piece that slips over the recieving end of the mag. What is this for?.....I can't believe I don't know the answer to this simple question.

It's a thumb saver for loading the mags. Once you get the first round in, you can use your thumb to push down the rounds so you can easily insert another.

I've got some really nice scars on my right thumb from loading FML full cap Glock 20 magazines. Also, my S&W 5906 mags have, upon occasion, sliced open my thumbs. These loaders are great to protect your hands during range sessions.

That item makes it much easier to load the Ruger mags. Without that, I have a hard time getting all 8 rounds into my KP-90 magazines.

Could use something like that for my GI mags, too....

Most "Mil-Spec" handguns don't have the thumb-saver device.
