Does Maryland restrict magazine capacities for hand guns and/or rifles? I have been told different stories by two shops, niether had magazines of greater then 10 rounds on the shelf. If only handguns are restricted, how does that effect handgun calibered rifles?

Thanks for the enlightenment,

all magazines are limited to 20 pictures and 2000 words

36H-5. Detachable magazines.
(a) Applicability. This section does not apply
to:
(1) The personnel or to the agencies specified
under § 36H-2(1) through (4) of this sub-
heading; or
(2) A transfer described under § 36H-2(5) or
(6) of this subheading.
(b) Detachable magazines. A person may
not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, purchase,
receive, or transfer a detachable magazine for
any type of firearm, except a .22 caliber rifle with
a tubular magazine, if the magazine has a
capacity of more than 20 rounds of ammunition

funny thing though,
you can buy them out of state...

Funny stuff...

Thanks Mr. Tuttle.

So I can own, buy, sell, and/or trade magazines with capacities up 20 rounds,

But I can only own (and bring into the state) magazines of greater capacity.

Funny laws this funny state has. I'll play by the rules and bring them in from outside the state!

Thanks again for the help,

You seem to understand it. For now.:uhoh:

Never know what idiotic bills will be presented this session.

Stop by Duclaw in Arundel Mills on Dec 9th around 7pm if you wanna' meet about 15 people from this forum there.

We'll be the ones talking loudly about GUNS.

Not "up to", "more than". In other words, a 20 round mag is OK; 21 is not.

Note on this one: It does apply to LEO's personally, and to dealers. No dealer can buy or take in a mag that can accept more than 20 rounds, even for sale out of state.

If a person has a magazine with a higher capacity, he can take it out of state and sell it, but cannot sell or transfer it to anyone in state, or ship it out of state.

You do mean December 8th, right.....Thursday? :neener:

More info please...

Thanks for the education. What date is the Duclaw get together? I Might find a way to attend, I only live about 15 mins away.

Also, if any of you locals care to pass along recommendations for gun shops to do business with (good service and fair pricing) I'm all ears. PM me if it is against forum policy. I'm in the market for a new toy and want to establish a relationship with a place worthy.

Thanks again,

Holding Breath

I live in Virginia and just hold my breath when I drive through Maryland. What those people in Baltimore and Montgomery County do to the rest of the state is hard to believe.

Yet there is a war raging in Baltimore County...

The Armory is great - nice to have a decent shop so close to home. And they have some kickbutt f/a stuff

Most of my purchases lately have come from On Target on 175 in Severn. Since I'm a member of the range there I'm there enough that the staff knows me fairly well.

Yup - December 8th at Duclaw; not the 9th. I need to lern too prufreed my posts a littel gooder.

How close to Bowie is the DuClaw at Arundel Mills?

About 15 minutes up Rte 3/301 until it turns into 97, then about 5 minutes west on rte 100 to Arundel Mills.

I didn't think as many people would know where the Duclaw in Bowie was, so I chose Arundel Mills since it's a prominent location, and most of us know where the Bass Pro is.....

No more than 20 minutes......probably best way to go is up RT 3 through Crofton, hit I97 to RT 100 West. Take Arundel Mills BLVD exit. I can make it from Greenbelt up 295 in 15 minutes on a good day.

DuClaw is all the way around where the movie theater is......it's to the right as you face the BassPro shop (you can't miss that, it's right in front of you as you come in the mall).

On Target has a pretty nice handgun collection, but hardly any rifles. I've also found the prices to be consistently higher there than elsewhere.

There's a place near 198 & 29 in Burtonsville called "The Gun Rack." It has an interesting selection and pretty good prices.

Gun rack has lots of nice EBRs.....good selection of handguns as well.

I suspect that On Target is selling mostly handguns as a reflection of the fact that they would like folks to get a membership and use them on the range. However, they do usually have some Bushmasters in stock and have been selling Yugo SKSs for $139.00.

People complain that On Target is expensive...and they are high compared to some other places....but their members' sale in early November kicks butt.
