How much of a concern is magazine well wear? Anyone ever wear out the magazine locking lug/latch, latch spring, or something else?

More specifically, how much wear could under-sized mags have on a firearm? Say one were to use a magazine that works in a gun but is not expressly designed for it and which is thinner than the normal magazines. Can this introduce issues? I'm thinking the extra space in the magwell might introduce torque on the mag catch and cause issues. What do you think?

.....i think you are DRASTICALLY over thinking things......

i suppose it is technically possible to wear out a mag latch.......but i have NEVER once heard of anyone actually doing it.

shoot your guns and be happy....if something breaks, replace it and keep on shooting.

OK, now you have. Me. Taurus 92AF, ambidextrous mag catch.. Had a precision welder put a tiny weldment on it and delicately file it down to spec. Pain to re-insert. Mag catch holes were OK.

In addition, one of my guns (forget which (PF9?) has a suggestion in the manual to depress the mag catch when inserting and withdrawing mags.

Magwell wear exists only in your fears. Forget about it. If you can shoot a pistol until the mag catch was worn out - you'd be around 100 years old. But don't worry - there are PLENTY of other parts in a pistol you can worry about wearing out (kidding). Any manufacturer who tells me to release the mag catch every time I insert or remove a magazine won't be getting any of my money. If that were really a problem then they should redesign that part.

Specifically I am thinking about using CZ75 mags in a CZ P07, but was kind of curious about other firearms as well.

If you have a poly part against a metal part you might, not will, develop a problem. If you're using it that much you're going to need new springs and a barrel anyway.

Mag catch wear is a real thing in guns with steel mags and plastic mag catches.

The Kel-Tec P series are a perfect example.

Quite common to wear out a plastic mag catch when slamming mags in without holding the button down.

In 50+ years of shooting & Gunsmithing, I have never seen or heard of a mag well wearing out.

I have heard of high milage competition guns with cracked mag wells.

But that was mostly due to over zealous use of a Dremel tool too bevel the mag well until there was no metal left in the corners to hold it together.

I wore out a plastic/poly/whatever mag catch on my Sub 2000. They sent me a metal replacement and it is still cadillacing along.
