Magazine's for Saiga-12

A little bird told me that there were 8 rounders in the works... but I don't remember where that bird came from or where it went. I ended up buying a Cetme instead. I still might get one of those if magazines ever get prevalent...

saiga makes 8 rounders, but as the importer dropped the line, there are very few and they are pricey. you can still get them from a couple of sources in england and finland.

They are scare as can be. And the last ones I saw for sale were $100. I'm guessing that somebody is going to start making these in the states, or hopefully the new importer will bring them in. I love my Saiga and want more mags for it.

Now Wakal, that isn't fair. :) You did that once before and I had to harrass you into telling us how you did it. So guys, do a search under Wakal and Saiga in this forum and you can learn how he sticks two 5 rounders together.

I have not tried that yet.

Usually just one Moderator with a chip on his shoulder and a lack of clues in his head ;)

Otherwise a nice bunch of folks :)

And... www.rusmilitary.com sells S12/8-round and S20/10-round magazines, if you don't feel like making a mess of two five round magazines :scrutiny:

These shotguns are getting a lot of interest in the 3-Gun world. I'm building one of my Saiga-20 conversions for Kay Clark-Miculek right now, and Jerry wants one for himself. Kind of like...cheating...

I was lucky -- I managed to grab two 5-round magazines for under $25.00 a piece before those became scarce.

Don't know if it's true or not, but I've been told that the BATF in their wisdom has made it illegal for a shotgun not manufactured in the US to have more than a 5-round magazIne. I do know that those who order the pricy ($100.00) eight round mags from Russia don't receive a magazine. Instead, they receive a kit in two shipments. Shipment one has the mag body. Shipment two has the follower and spring. It doesn't matter to me since I cannot afford to toss away a hundred dollars on a magazine.

My Saiga-12 is the one with the 22" barrel designed so the far end is a full choke. It points naturally and the gas action softens the recoil noticably as compared to a pump like the Mossberg 500 I sold in favor of the Saiga.

Yeah, I'd prefer the 19" threaded barrel, but they weren't available. Yeah, I'd like to put a high eye relief red dot sight on it. But hey, for the special price CDNN had on these last Memorial Day, there was no way to beat it. (Hard to realize I've had it nearly a full year.)

The 20 round mag is sweet

I watched a video clip of a Russian SWAT? guy shooting a fully auto Saiga 12 with a 20 round mag. That thing was sweet. I'll try to track down the link and post it for all to enjoy.

runswithscissors.... Interesting link but waaaay impractical if you ask me. Did you notice how much trouble they had controlling their fire? They were 5 feet from the target and could barely keep the weapon pointed at what they were aiming at. For any kind of aimed fire they had to drop back to single shot mode, and even then they were at less than 10 feet.

At those ranges a full auto .40 or .45 would be just as effective and easier to control. Heck, at those ranges an AK would be just as effective, if not more so, with way more ammo to boot.

Think I'll pass. But interesting to watch anyway.
