I am in the need of a magnifier for my eotech red dot site, but am hoping to avoid the outrageous cost of the eotech and aimpoint ones.

Has anybody tried any cheaper models with any luck? Price and where you bought it would be nice to know as well as if you are pleased with it.

Thanks

MC

They may or may not work. Someone make a Po-Boy magnifier but I can't remember who it is off the top of my head. If you are looking to go inexpensive try one of these.

Please, please, please, don't buy a Chinese knockoff. Not only are they crap but you are supporting an industry built on ripping people off.

You really do get what you pay for on Glass. Better light transfer, scratch resistance, overall durability, etc.

I have the po'boy special. Price was $200
Larue makes the po' boy magnifier. First if you order this you need the low mount for co witness with EOTech.

Pros:Made by Hensoldt. My understanding is this is the military division of Zeiss. It is a 2.5 magnifier. It works and the mount is solid in either position. The magnifier is a sight off a rocket launcher of sorts(RPG?) and is stout. I dropped it 4 feet onto concrete floor with no issues.

The only con I can come with is the eye relief. You need to put your eye right up to it. I mean you set your eyebrow on it. It does have a rubber eye piece on it but it is hard rubber. While on an AR it is not painful it will cause fatigue over extended strings.

I do not regret buying this. Larue is an excelent company that stands behind their products. But I did use it at first, it helps with initial sight in. I did take it off and stuck it in my BOB and havent really used it since.

Hope this helps

The Aimpoint magnifier is a rip. All the military scopes are. I think they're used to the .mil paying millions for a shovel.

But it's still your best option. Aimpoint+Aimpoint magnifier= ACOG capability and price, but you can remove the mag for 1x use. Or in my case, I use the mag on multiple weapons saving me a ton compared to te price of multiple ACOGs.

I have't tried my mag with an Eotech yet.

Are there any other options for flip to side mounts other than Larue Tactical? $150 for mounts just seems too much.

Because it is ;)

Yep. Seems like if the US military uses it, its probably the most expensive in its league.

there is an optic line I am seeing more and more at the gunshows; called something like star point, or star light, or something like this- black box red lettering. they are cheaper, and good, with unconditional lifetime wrrties.
I have seen through their eotech clone, and also the 4 type heads up red dot.
which the latter goes for about 80 to 120 bucks, depending on whom you get it from; both are very nice. The eotech clone is about 140 bucks.

Any search for star just brings up good ol NC Star. Try to remember what company it is. I would be interested in a good red dot with a lifetime warranty for under 100. I hope its not the NC Star clone red dot with 4 reticles that everyone under the sun rebadges (I own an iTac rebadge, its not bad).

The Burris AR Tripler isn't too bad. It has centering knobs, a focus ring and clear glass. The eye relief is quite short though. That may or may not bother you.
