I purchased small magnum pistol primers because they were available. I usually just use small pistol primers. To get the most from this primer and Blue Dot - which I happen to have a lot of - would you recommend I try the combination with 9-125gr, 45-200gr, or 40-160gr cast bullets?

I suppose I would load up 50 rounds at the minimum powder recommendation for each caliber. Some auto loaders don't like cast bullets very well if they happen to be coated that helps.

I would start a new load workup from min suggested load and work up if necessary. Normally, I'll start with two cylinders full for revolvers, 16-18 rounds in two magazines for high capacity semi-autos, 16 rounds for my Garand, 8 rounds for my bolt guns. If I get an unsatisfactory load I have to pull there isn't a bunch, and two cylinders, two magazines, two clips and two magazines/capacity for my bolt guns will give me an idea if I should try more of that load or go on with the work up...

None of the above.
Blue Dot, a.k.a. “Flaming Blue Dirt”, needs a full case and high pressure to work. It’s a very good magnum revolver powder, a fairly good +P revolver powder, and probably one of the best 10mmAuto powders around; but it’s just not great with 9mm, 40S&W or .45ACP.
Will it go Bang! and push the bullet down the barrel? Sure! U-betcha! Will it be clean, pleasant, accurate, worth the cost of a primer? Nope. Not unless all you want is noise and fire. Then it’s awesome!

I used blue dot with decent results in 45 acp. I use around 9 grains for .357 and worked well enough but i cannot attest to accuracy because i haven't tested that yet.
It's a good powder for bigger cases like 45, 357 , 44 mag, etc.

None of the above.

Actually... I agree with that. BlueDot is slower than Unique and does not like mid-range loads, let alone target velocity loads. Looking at Alliant's data, they don't have anything listed slower than BE-86 or SportPistol for those weight/cartridge combos... even jacketed. My experience says there's a reason for that.

OK,grr. I suppose I can try to prove some of you wrong by testing the powder but I don't want to waste my time on it. I have other powders that have more potential. As for the magnum pistol primers, I'll find a use for them later.

Thanks for the 10mm tip

None of the above. .357-125 gr., and .44 Mag 240 or 300 gr. That's Blue Dot's wheelhouse.

I'll second this. I liked Blue Dot for my Glock 29 but I think the barrel was too short to maximize the potential. Blue Dot was just a little too slow.
