What is the difference between the Magpul back up sights and the Magpul PTS back up sights? I know the PTS version is significantly cheaper, but why?

Also, what is the difference between the generation 1 and generation 2? Thanks.

That depends on the purpose of the gun. For range plinking it's hard to justify the cost of BUIS. For combat, of course not.

Depends on the purpose of the sights more than the rifle. If they are being used as intended (back-up sights), they are hard to beat for cost, weight, durability, and ease of use. As primary sights they are a poor choice.

The PTS versions are a waste of money and will only lead to buying replacements later. I suspect that many complaints for MBUS's stem from them being PTS versions and either not admitting it or not knowing (gun shows and eBay are bad about this).

I like the Midwest Industries SPLP. It's built like a tank and can fit under more optics than most other sights. Just be careful...there's a lot of fakes online and airsoft junk. I have bought a real GG&G MAD for $50 new online and also a real MATECH new for $50 too. I have bought a fake chinese knockoff once too (I got ripped off) and it worked but you can tell the difference in quality. I ended up giving it away for free. I think I paid $80 for the MI one. Shop around for a deal and you can put together a nicer set for around the same money.

If you want some good flip up iron sights, YHM makes some that aren't going to break the bank.

I run them on my M&P PSX:

I like the MBUS sights, but for shooting at distance the YHM are a better option. I think it just depends on how you intend to use the rifle. For back up, emergency SD/HD situations the Magpul will probably serve you just fine but the YHM are a little nicer....
