I can't make my mind up on a butt stock for my new AR build i've narrowed it down to MAGPUL and VILTOR any info/pros and cons of these 2 buttstocks would be greatly appreciated
I just bought a Magpul UBR stock and it seems to be well made. For the price it better be. I'm still saving up for the upper and so I haven't shot with it yet. It is heavier than a basic carbine stock but I hope to have it balance out the mid length that is going to go on it. My other black rifle is a 20" with full stock and it is a bit more muzzle heavy than I would have liked.
The CTR is going to be a lighter stock, and has the friction lock capability (i.e., no wobble on the buffer tube).
The Modstock is going to be a little heavier (especially if you fill the storage tubes with batteries). This stock does wobble a little, but not as much as the standard carbine stock body. The shape of the stock gives a more comfortable cheek weld (as also seen on the Crane/LMT SOPMOD Stock). VLTOR stocks also have QD sling swivel sockets, which the CTR does not.
I own the VLTOR clubfoot stock you're looking at, and their EMod stock. Very happy with both. EMod wobbles less than the Modstock.
You won't go wrong with either stock. It pretty much comes down to "lighter with a friction lock" vs. "heavier with more 'features' ". Take your pick.
Mr Clean put it best the CTR will have more adjustability the Vltor will have a better cheek weld. If it is for a magnified scoped rifle I would get the Vltor for a CQB setup go with the Magpul. That is what I have going on with my AR15 and AR10 the lighter AR15 has a Magpul and the 3x scoped AR10 has the Vltor.
Mrclean thanks thats just the kinda input i was looking for, think i'm leaning toward the CTR i like the sound of a collapsible stock that has no play between it and the buffer tube
MrCleanOK The CTR does have QD sling swivel socket.
And the CTR is what I have on my AR. I like it a lot, real solid. The anti-friction lock is very nice.
I have a CTR that I'm in love with. In my honest opinion though, you're getting more stock with the VLTOR. It's already got the cheek pads and built in storage. You can purchase separate pads for the CTR, but it'll be more than the extra $2 difference between it and the VLTOR.
