Anyone have any experience with this round? Does it expand reliably? I have an M1 Carbine I would like to have ready for HD/SD use, should I so need it (yes an AR would be better, but I just got out of grad school am still looking for work and just don't have the money. The M1 was inherited.). They had some at the local gun shop and "social" ammo for the weapon gets expensive, but the price was good. I have a Mossberg 590 that I keep loaded and an SKS that I can also use, but, darn it, that carbine is compact and handy. Did a search, but couldn't find anything specifically on the Magtech SP's.
Thank you

I've shot plenty of Magtech ammo and it seems all good.

The question with regard to the carbine is whether softpoints cycle well in them. Remember the carbine was developed with ball ammo in mind. Some will function reliably only with ball ammo and others seem to eat anything; the only way to tell is to buy that brand of ammo and try it in your individual gun. If it chokes, polishing up the feedramp might be a remedy, but you might always find it to be finicky.

According to Doc Robert's tests M1 carbine ammo rates as follows:

Best: Corbon DPX
Good: Remington SP and Winchester HP

No tests on Magtech

Polishing the feed ramp is always a good idea. When the arsenals reparked the guns they did the whole gun. IIRC the feed ramp was originally polished.
