Have a Taraus PT99. went to change the main spring to a lighter one. Removed grips, drove out pin expected plug to come flying out, nope.

Please enlighten me. What do you need to to to get the plug/lanyard loop to come out.

Quote form another thread

I have a question though. In trying to get the mainspring out, I've removed the roll pin that holds the lanyard loop in place. I assumed that the lanyard loop would just come out at this point, but it didn't. Does the magazine release need to be removed to get the lanyard loop out, and if so, does anyone know how to do that

So at least I am not the only one:confused:

I will probally laugh/cry when I hear the answer and feel dumb.....
But hey you guys/gals are great so I figured someone out there will get a good laugh out of answering my question.

Didja try cocking the action?
Be careful because the housing and base may fly out with some force. HTH

Don't remember. I believe I had it cocked since I had pulled the slide off. Will have to try again and make sure it is cocked. I expected it to come flying out!

The Berettas with the roll pin and the Taurus guns can get scored on the frame and/or the plug if the pin is installed without using a proper slave pin. When those are stuck, press the butt of the pistol down hard onto a piece of wood to compress the plug into the frame. When it moves and you release the pressure it will come out under spring pressure. Getting the barbell shaped pin from Beretta is well worth the money if you plan to ever remove it again.

If you have the Taurus with the security lock, you're in for a treat. The lock has to come out first. Have a look at the parts diagram in your manual before you start so you can visualize how it's assembled. Place a drop of oil into the lock and lock/unlock it a few times to make sure everything is loosened up. On the right side, locate the two holes near the lock. The bottom hole contains a pin that you must drive out. Reach into the magazine well with one finger and push the lock to the rear. Once the lock is past the detent you'll be able to pull it out the rear. As you're doing this, the detent ball is going to fall loose so make sure it doesn't get lost. Use a pick or a probe to reach into the upper hole and remove the detent spring. Now you can remove the mainspring plug.

Once you've got the plug reinstalled the fun begins. Place the gun perfectly flat on its left side. It helps to have someone hold it steady for you. Place the detent spring back into its hole and make sure it is properly seated. Use tweezers or forceps to reach through the lock hole and place the detent ball on the end of the spring. Place a punch through the detent spring hole to press the ball and spring down and hold it below the surface of the lock hole. Align the lock properly and insert it until it touches the punch, then withdraw the punch while installing the lock the rest of the way. Then install the lock pin and you are done.

The problem is that little detent ball never wants to stay in place. When it comes loose it has a tendency to roll into the mainspring. Sometimes you end up having the remove the mainspring to get it if it won't shake back out. A little dab of grease on the end of the detent spring can help keep the ball in place, but it takes very sure and steady hands to get the lock reassembled.

Ah, I see said the blind man.

The Taraus Security lock has to come out.
Looking at the drawing on Numerich I thought that might be the case, but wanted to make sure since taking it looked like it might be fun.
I am happy to know I have special treat in store for me.:)

Thanks Miked7762, appreciate it!

I presume you're installing a 92D spring, as I hear that gives a lighter DA pull.
I've thought about doing this.

I'm kinda curious to whether the OP got the mainspring out or not.
He posted that he thinks he had the gun cocked when he drifted the pin out which would bind the cap into place.
The gun should be hammer down when you drift the pin to relieve the spring tension.

Been busy and have not tackled it yet. I purchase a reduced power sprint from Wolfe. They list different part #s for Taraus PT99 and Beretta 92 but when contacting them they said they are interchangable. (I was ordering other stuff from Midway and they had the Beratta spring but were out of the "Taraus" spring.

Will update when I get it done. (hopefully soon, just need to be in the right mood to deal with small piddlely parts...Taraus safety system)
