Maine competition?

Does anyone know if there are any shooting competitions in the state of Maine?

Frankly, I can't seem to find anything, and it's depressing.

I'm actually not particular about what kind of comp, as long as it's regularly scheduled. (More of a match the tool to the task thing, you know?)

I Shoot 1 or 2 IDPA matches every year in Scarborough. They also host other events...

Thanks for the information y'all - especially that info about the club up in Augusta, as I've been spending a lot of time in that area lately.

Just contacted USPSA and had them send me the information packet, wherein I can become benumbed and frustrated with all the rules, throw my hands up in the air in confusion, and just give up and go watch a few matches to figure the whole thing out.

Don't worry about going and watching first. Take a gun, holster, and magazines. Shoot in Limited division until you learn the rules. Most clubs will do some type of intro for new shooters that will give you at least enough information the safely run the course.

I think I was 4 or 5 matches into USPSA before I even understood how the overall match scoring works, but you'll learn far more quickly by participating than by watching .

Only piece of information that you really need to know ahead of time is that most shooting sports (USPSA, IDPA, GSSF, Steel Challenge, etc) all operate under Cold Range rules. That means that you can only handle a gun in the safe area or when a range/safety officer tells you to. Other than that the gun must be holstered or in a bag. Handling a gun anywhere else will get you DQ'd from the match. Also - no ammo, or anything that looks like ammo (empty cases, snap caps, etc) is to be in the safe area. You can handle ammo and load mags anywhere else but there.

That should keep you from DQ'ing before you start the match and they'll explain the rest at the new shooters briefing .

Everyone says they're going to go to just watch the first time, and every single time they wish they just brought their gear and competed. Every. Single. Time.

Just jump right in. I went to my first competition (uspsa) with the mindset that I didn't expect to do well, expected to make mistakes, and just wanted to get the first one out of the way.

Well, I shot better than more than half the combined competitors that day and I had a freaking blast. Went to my second competition two weeks later and placed 13th out of 42 overall. I'm hooked.

I've hot USPSA with the guys up at the Capital City club in Augusta..... a very nice group. Try to catch their intro. clinic. A very modest cost of $20, and they fed us pizza.

They shoot IDPA in Scarborough, but they want $150 for their clinic and discourage coming to the meets if you haven't been to their clinic.
