What Chief Engineer mentioned about not having to do 4473's is correct there is such a thing called the "Brady alternative".
Not sure what all the requirements for our CCW permit to qualify are. But there are States where they fill in your CCW permit number on the 4473 form and that is it. No phone call to NICS or nothing!!!!

Here is a list of States in regards to this.

Thanks Edster but Maine is not one of those states and there is nothing to indicate that would be the case.

I actually wouldn't even want my CCW # tied to every firearm I purchased so I would still fill out a 4473 if given the option in that situation.

UPDATE: The Constitutional Carry part was shot down, now we simply have to ask our representatives to OPPOSE LD 222 that gives the State Police more power, more authority, more regulation and a secret database to go along with it. Very troubling. Apparently not being able to "track" those citizens with conceal carry permits is hindering them... From what I wonder?

Also, it's time to contact Governor LePage and ask him to VETO LD 222 if it reaches his desk. He has always supported gun owners in the past, even has his own CCW. :)

My letter to Governor LePage.

I am writing to urge you to VETO LD 222 that would allow the Maine State Police to create a secret database on gun owners. This "overhaul" as they call it will do nothing but strip local authority and give more power, more authority, and form of registration to the State Police.

If LD 222 reaches your desk PLEASE VETO and continue to protect the Rights of Maine citizens as you have in the past.

I'm confused. How can you say that the Data base is secret when it's creation, maintenance, and prohibitions for used are laid out in the law.
I believe it was stated that this database would be accessible only to law enforcement. So regardless of what they're told to do this database could include anything since we can't access it. On the other side of that, we don't want a public database of CCW holders (now illegal in Maine anyway) so the whole thing in my opinion needs to go away.
