On March 6, S.659 (Lawsuit Preemption to protect gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits) will be brought to the Senate floor. It now has enough votes to pass and to avoid a filibuster BUT...

Several "poison pill" amendments are being prepared in an attempt to kill the bill. These amendments include an attempt by Sen. Feinstein to renew the assault weapons ban, an attempt to kill the recent Tiarhart Amendment (this was language in an appropriations bill that called for the immediate destruction of approved legal purchases in NICS), and several other equally nasty gun control proposals.

Now, the NRA has already said killing the ban is more important than S.659. They will not accept an assault ban renewal amendment and would rather kill S.659. The House of Representatives can easily strip out any Senate amendments in the bill; but unless the conference committee accepts these changes, this will also kill S.659.

All it takes to add an amendment from the Senate floor is a simple majority of those present. Please contact your Senators and encourage them to pass S.659 WITHOUT any gun control amendments added to it. With 55 co-sponsors we should have no trouble shooting down amendments, we just need to make sure that none of the 55 think it is OK to vote for S.659 AND ok to vote for an AW ban renewal amendment (remember Sen. Daschle is one of the sponsors).

SO PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SENATORS BEFORE MARCH 6!
