MAK-90 range report

I got a MAK-90 a few days ago. Here's a picture:



I took it to the Prentice Cooper State Park range, near Chattanooga, today. Here is the 50 yard range:



Standing, offhand, iron sights, I was able to do a six inch group of ten. Here's my target:



I think I really like this MAK-90. It functioned perfectly. I think I may try to scope it, eventually.

what the cost of them these days i was just wondering. i havent seen one in years around here i got 1 and its pretty good ole gun . i pakerized mine it turn a green gray tint of parkeriz and i change out the shock

I would guesstimate the thumb hole versions go for around $400, since no more
can be imported they'll keep going up in price. When my dad saw mine 10 years
ago he decided to get one too, back then they were $200.00 NIB including
3-fives and 1-thirty.


We put one of those no modification needed scope mounts on his which seems to
work well for hunting whitetail deer in dense Michigan woods.

i have a mak-90 as well and mine is a fine firearm, the trigger on it is nicer than my ar that cost way more money. congrats on the rifle, you got a good one. i like mine alot, cheap to shoot and get mags for and a heck of alot of fun. from the benchrest i can hit a 3" circle all day long at 100yds. sometimes i shoot copenhagen cans for fun! I have never had a single issue with it. i am sure that it will serve you well, as has mine.

I like the MAK-90. It doesn't get the respect it deserves. The quality is far and above every AK except for the Arsenal types and the Veprs (and lately, the Saiga conversions).


It has a great trigger. Feels like the G2, except about 1.5lbs heavier. But it is smooth.


These rifles are a lot closer to the milspec rifles because they didn't face the later restrictions. They were mostly affected by cosmetics, like the stock, muzzle, bayo...whereas newer AK's have to have critical parts swapped out or built from kits.

Not too much of an AK fan, but decided to get a MAK-90 before the California ban on them. They were cheap back then.....in the neighborhood of $225 or so. I still haven't shot it yet. That thumbhole stock is funky as all hell. I have thought about getting the required parts to allow me to swap the stock out for the normal pistol grip setup, but I haven't wanted to drop the money to do so for a gun I paid $225 for!! I may break down and finally figure out what is needed to do it.
