I've got one of those, with the original wood grips. Yours looks a lot more comfortable to shoot. My wife knew I was looking for a Makarov to use as a truck gun, son she bought this fancy little jewel a couple years ago as a Christmas gift.

No, I don't carry it in the truck.

I've got the identical gun and I love it.
My was my primary carry for quite a while and still serves as an alternate.

I took the stock grips off and installed a set of makawraps. I ended up cutting the finger grooves off as they didn't fit my hand...and wound up with a set that I absolutely love.

Great gun and it has been 100% reliable.

I understood the Makarov round to be 9x18.

So,what's a 9x17?

9x17 = 9mm Kurz = .380 ACP.

In addition to those few Maks that someone rebarrelled in 9x17, the commercial Maks were available in 9x17 models as that caliber was thought to be more marketable at one time. This includes the Russian IJ70, the Bulgarian Arsenal and the Chinese Makarov imports.

Its not rebarrelled.....they come OEM with both 9x18 and .380 most places.....Russian, Bulg n so on. The rounds are very close in everything, energy, size etc.....its a natural assimilation.

I have a standard Arsenal Makarov.
But, it's not as nice as that one!!!

The Miltex SE was the first of the commercial Bulgarian imports. "Around 1998, Miltex was working with the Bulgarian Arsenal factory that produced Makarovs to modernize the Makarov and offered the pistol in a variety of finishes and with value added features." The highlight of these Makarovs was their excellent finish and quality control.

Miltex found out that importing these Special Editions was not as lucrative as they thought and got out of that side of the business. Arsenal (through encouragement by someone else) kept making commercial Makarovs. At first, they used parts left over from the Miltex venture and then kept on from there. While these later Arsenal imports (also sold in Europe) were very good quality, they do not quite match up to the excellence of the Miltex SE.

That is the only gun I ever let go that I regretted.

Miltex was the importer for my Arcus 94, great pistol.

I wish I had picked up a couple of more E Germans when AIM had them a few years back for $150, trigger is sooo much better than my Bulgie.

I also wish I had picked up the Russian I saw at a local dealers about a 3 months ago for $190.
