Okay - purchased this weapon about a year or so ago when one of the scares were going on about them being banned.

This rifle is the plain jane version, meaning no rails or accessories.

I would like to put a scope on the rifle.
I would also like to (or think i would) like to put a folding vertical handle on the bottom side of the handle to hold while shooting or have that option.

Questions: Do I have to put a rail on for the scope and the underside handle ?

Is there a scope mount w/o having to purchase a rail that will hold the scope secure, etc... thinking granted if you bang the scope around with any type mount it's subject to hurt the accuracy of the scope. Will there be machining to do if just a scope mount ? And with a rail; any suggestions on a part number I would need ?

Is a rail required for the underside handle ? I'd rather not put the rail on, weight, expense if something like this can clamp onto existing hand guards, etc ?

Hate to ask so many questions, but I've been away from arms for a while and trying to become reaquainted ...

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

David

Get the DSA scope mount that replaces the dustcover. No machining required. Make sure you get the short one if you plan on keeping the carry handle. Can't help you on the handguard. Go to the DSA website and have a look.

Another vote for the DSA scope mount. Works great, well at least mine does. Depending on the scope you plan to use and the ring height your cheek weld may suffer.

A vertical fore grip is easy enough, you can get a small section of rail the will mount in the vent holes on the bottom of the standard hand guards. Then you can mount a vertical fore grip to that. I had mine set up like that but took it off. Just didn't work for me.

Why would you want a scope on a carbine? Buggers the balance. FAL's(and any battll rifle) don't take to scopes well anyway.

thanks for the great replies and note to Sunray !

Great info guys... makes it easy for me ! Thanks again.

Sunray ... you are probably absolutely correct, but me pushing 60 my old eyesight isn't what it should be ...

Anything past about, well, length of the barrell I'll need a scope to see it ! haha Well, not quite that bad, but the scope is really more about my vision than anything else.

Again... Great info... Thanks again !

You must be a young one. Maybe you will be lucky enough to be able to see as well as you do now, forever. I for one don't need a scope. But a red dot that is in the same focal plane as the target, sure does help my shooting....

Be sure to use BLUE LOCTITE on all the mounting screws for the DSA rail.

Otherwise, you'll be right back here singing the blues about how awful it is.

Also, once its on there, LEAVE IT THERE. If you go pulling it off after each range trip, you won't be happy with what happens.

Do not overtighten the mounting screws.
"Just snug" and with Loctite is all the mount will tolerate.
Those screws strip if you just look at them hard.

Its a good mount, provided that all the related surfaces are true to one-another. If they aren't, you'll be using most of your windage/elevation adjustment (usually windage) to correct-to-center.

The main reason for having a telescopic sight on any "practical" or hunting rifle is to be able to see small targets in poor light.
Iron sights are TERRIBLE for this task.
