Hello,
I recently purchased two sporterized Remington Bertheirs. They were pretty bad looking on the surface and I got both for $100. I am aspiring to become a gunsmith so I got them to practice on cleaning and refinishing. After cleaning up one of them it turns out that they just have surface rust and the bore is still in pristine condition with strong mirror like finish. After I check headspace I want to take them out to test there accuracy but 8mm lebel is hard to come by and the brass is as well. I was thinking of resizing 7.62x54r. Has anyone tried this yet or know a good cartridge to make into 8mm lebel?

Prvi makes 8mm Lebel ammo and SG Ammo has it in stock. This would seem to be a much easier way to acquire brass for your rifles.

From a casual search 348 Winchester is what people make 8mm Lebel from. The process includes turning down the rim on a lathe. Seems like a lot of work that can be avoided by buying some loaded ammo.

Google is your friend.

I'm not a Lebel expert, but please do some research before you fire them as IIRC, there were, like, three different versions of that round (Balle C, Balle d, etc.) and they require different chambers\leads.
Very cool guns, though- and Remington's to boot! Good luck!

-GRIZ22 thanks I will checkout SG Ammo and I saw that 348 Winchester could be used. I don't have a lathe to trim down the rim so I'm hoping for an easier alternative but like you said it looks like buying the prvi is the easiest route.

-NIGHTLORD40K thanks I didn't know that. I did some research and I found this video . It looks like that balle D was primarily used until the 1930's and balle N was used from then on. Since my rifles were made around 1915 it would be balle D so no surplus for me . In the video he says prvi is safe in all 8mm lebel since it's made to balle D standards. I will double check with prvi to make sure.
