Reeferman beat me to it. A 200 gr LRNFP and 5.5 gr Bullseye in a .44 Spl case and you’re good to go for any newer big-bore shooter.

This is a GP 100 3” shot DA at 12 yards with a 200 gr coated Eggleston over 5.5 gr Bullseye. In a longer barrelled SA .44 you can expect a lot more landing in the orange on a B-16 target like this one.

I don’t know what bullets you are using but I use a lot of either Speer or Hornady 240 grain SWC lead with 5 or 5.5 grains of Bullseye in 44 magnum cases. Use the same for Campro 240 grain plated. Once he is able to handle the recoil of them then move up to a mid load powder.

I think you would be off the books using Bullseye for 44 Magnum. However, I see that 5+ grains is a generous increase over the 44 Special load (for 205 grain in Lyman) and has supposedly been tried and recommended. Unique is not such a fast burner, expecting a pressure spike (and recoil) with something faster. Still need to get off those 240 grain bullets and get in the 200 or less range.

Hello everyone hope all is well. I recently bought a used Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag.
I love it so far, I shot about 20-30 rounds the other day with some stout .44 and loved it. It had some kick for sure but im cool with that. I want to take my 18 year old son out to shoot it, however I know he will not enjoy and most likely not be able to handle them hot loads. He is a smaller size kid and has a disability so his hand strength it not as other kids his age. He has shot other calibers such as .40/.38/.22/.380 not sure if he shot .357 or not but I know these .44 will be too much. Im looking for some advice/ideas for loading some very light and safe .44 mag. cartridges he could handle and enjoy shooting at steel. I have 3 reloading manuals, several powders, and bullets weights to choose from on hand at my buddies house so I don't have exact details of what I have right now. He is holding all my reloading components as I am in the processos of moving an didn't want to put that stuff in storage. Thanks for any advice.

I was just at the range yesterday shooting some light .44mag loads (seem incongruous doesn't it?). I was shooting at 25yds with 240Gr LRNs over 7Gr of Win231. They were VERY mild and seemed accurate enough at this distance. Shooting it out of a Ruger Alaskan and Marlin 1894 SBL. I also tried 10Gr and it was moderate/medium recoil. I'm probably gonna bump the 7Gr up to 8Gr and load a bunch more for recreational purposes.
