I am thinking of purchasing a Marlin 980S and was wondering if anyone had any pros/cons for that rifle or if you could suggest a better rifle at around the same price.
I have a 980V bud and that thing shoots tight groups with the heavy barrel. Marlin's trigger pull is somewhat heavy/stiff, and the forearm is a bit thin. I wussed out and put a Harris on it. If you're going to replace the trigger, call Marlinm give them your serial# and they'll give you the year. Rifle Basix makes replacement trigger groups for about $80.
I picked up a 980S a couple of years ago. It's a good, solid, accurate bolt action (most Marlins seem to be). It's more accurate than I am, and I hear the rifle basix trigger is a nice upgrade.
