By the time you got the car into reverse and cranked the wheel around, the pedestrian rider would have shot you multiple times and even if you got the car to move, the pedestrian would have been totally missed by the vehicle.

I successfully put the gear shift into reverse and moved my truck in .51 seconds on my stop watch. You don't wait for the rear passenger to dismount. Your cue to act is the motorcycle pulling up within inches of your vehicle.

Look at the total situation. You are sitting at a gate to a restricted access area next to a control box where you either swipe a card or use an intercom to identify yourself and gain access. You see a motorcycle approaching in your side mirror. The motorcycle is on a path that will bring it to within inches of your vehicle. That's the only place it can go as there is no room for the motorcycle to pass between your car and the control box. Most people should realize well before the motorcycle stops that there is something wrong here.

The idea that one should sit and wait to see what happens is ludicrous. If you recognize that "something isn't right" about the approaching motorcycle and act before it comes to a stop, you are inside the bad guy's decision loop. Suddenly their plan hasn't survived contact.

I don't understand why everyone thinks you need to wait to see what develops to take action. The driver of the car obviously saw the motorcycle coming up behind him in his mirror. He wasn't just sitting their in condition white daydreaming.

The barrier gate was up enough to allow his car to pass into the secured area before the motorcycle stopped next to his car. He could have driven forward into the secure area or he could have backed up. He didn't even have to turn the wheel to strike them.

You don't have to sit and wait to see if the person on the back of the motorcycle is going to ask you to donate to a charity or car jack you. There is no legitimate reason for a motorcycle to try to drive between the car and the control box for the gate. That's what we call a CLUE!!!

All of this discussion is focusing on a gunfight that doesn't have to happen if you are alert and can read the clues. Personally, I'd rather put myself in a position of advantage then to have to play catch up like the man in the video.
