Man Charged with Shooting Rifle in Celebration
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Police in Burlington say a man has been charged with reckless endangerment after celebrating the election of Barack Obama by firing 18 shots from a rifle, hitting an apartment building and a house. No one was hurt.
Thirty-four-year-old James G. Dewalt told police he fired the shots in celebration from his third-floor window early Wednesday.
The bullets hit an apartment building and a house.
Police say Dewalt turned over the Russian-made target rifle and shell casings after they traced the trajectory of the shots to his North Street home. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.

:D The Caledonian Record, about as close to a right wing news paper as Vermont has. It makes sense though, unlike in Burlington, here in the NEK we know enough to not shoot in our own homes.(that is what neighbors are for.)

Yes, let's all celebrate the anti-gun President by firing off all of our evil ammo from our evil guns. I'm more likely to practice with it than celebrate now, but YMMV.

Unfortunately, it only takes one to spoil it for everyone.

Actually, I think that Obama had a pretty big campaign staff, and he came from the Chicago Machine. So don't let them fool you. It's not really just one.

Remember the part about no politics?

Suggestion: Try the Highroad!;)

CRITGIT

I didn't think it was as political as it was showing how STUPID and IGNORANT some people can be.

And, when I said "it only takes one to spoil it for everyone," I meant the person that DIDN'T RESPECT HIS FIREARM and DIDN'T ABIDE BY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SHOOTING!:cuss:

I have been eyeballing those russian 22s. They are nice.

Yeah celebrating firing guns in the air Arab wedding (soccer win, child birth, had a firm poop, I JUST FEEL GOOD) celebration style is not cool. Can we officially label this man DUMMY? I think so.

Especially when he simply shot out the window in a small city - APPARENTLY NOT EVEN IN THE AIR!

IDIOT!

Unfortunately, it only takes one to spoil it for everyone

it always has! that is half of the problem. what ever happened to being responsible for your own actions? because of things like this, laws get passed. instead of punishing the one guilty party, millions have to pay. isnt life grand!?

does any one else think this was just a cover story for being a bad shot, and missing whatever he was shooting at? no one celebrates by shooting at a downward angle at someones house. I think he was trying to hit something and thought it was better to be charged with that than attempted murder.

Yes, Sarge, I think there is more to the story than has been reported.

Including the part where "they traced the trajectory of the shots to his North Street home." The house and apartment he hit could not have been more than a couple hundred feet away, maybe even right next door.

sorry to post off topic...

but if the shooter was really trying to kill someone or shoot something he was not supposed to, i seriously doubt he would do it from his own home. who knows... maybe hes just that retarded...

Police say Dewalt turned over the Russian-made target rifle and shell casings after they traced the trajectory of the shots to his North Street home.

Huh, surprised they didn't say 'sniper rifle' or 'assault rifle'.

How can you plea not guilty when you addmitted to do it?

Sarge, I could even see fire off a mag in celebration (well and idiot celebration) but I agree, 18 shots? Unless that 22 has a large ammo capacity he must have been shooting at cats or something.

I, for one, would like to see a picture of the Russian target rifle that was mentioned. Would anyone else like to see?? THANKS!

Me too!

Yes, I'm assuming it's a .223 caliber. Imagine just shooting a .223 out your window at the adjacent buildings.:uhoh:
I can't even fathom such stupidity.

Even when I used to drink heavily (it's been over 25 years since I've touched a drop), I still wouldn't even consider such an asinine thing.

Like they say, "being stupid should cost," and I guess this will cost this idiot big time.
