Man hospitalized after using shotgun to loosen lug nut

Doesn't this happen to everyone that changes a tire? Hell' I change my spark plugs with a frying pan and a flame thrower. What's the big deal?:what:

When I read the title I thought he was useing the gun as a cheater bar
on the log wrench. I had no idea he was shooting the lug nut until I read it.

Sort of related: I always use a torque wrench to put on lugs. I thank myself later when I have to take them off.

Dang man the best way to get that last lug nut off is to just take and put the one on either side of it back on tighten them back down and then loosen the stubborn lug nut.

I thought that was standard practice, so I didn't bring it up. The other thing to do is try to tighten it a little before trying to loosen it again. (Apart from all the other things, like penetrating oils, etc.)

Both activities tend to relieve some of the stresses.

Best solution is to use a torque wrench, and tell anybody who's changing tires for you to torque them correctly, then ask them what they torqued it to before you pay for it. Overtorquing on some wheels can warp your discs.

Well, that's the way I was larned, anyhow.

I have a Norton P-11 with the swing arm axle stuck firmly in place. Can anyone recommend the right caliber/gauge for removing it?

.303, maybe .455
