Manchester England: TEENAGE GIRL SHOT BY BMX GUN GANG

I think I will have to call B.S on this story. Handguns are banned in the U.K

Illegal ones arn't,so to speak. The handgun ban was to stop psychotic gun owners, from killing with their handguns,as Thomas Hamilton and Micheal Ryan did, with the upmost pleasure-where they shot innocent kids and adults, brutally, with huge grins on their faces.

Ryan shot a nurse 15 times with his Beretta 92f,in front of her kids, then reloaded the pistol and walked off.Ryan later emptied his 9mm Beretta into a dying cops head.Hamilton fired two brownings together at the classroom windows at Dunblane primary school, killing and wounding kids.He later killed more, when he entered the gym and classrooms, sporting an unhealthy grin and wide-eyed expression.

These brutal accounts were why, many people and polititions wanted handguns banned:because these crimes were committed by ordinary men and not gangsters and other thugs. They would rather not own them at all and not allow others who are interested in owning them-to do so legally. This was one reason why the Snowdrop Petition gained so much support in Scotland, during mid 1996.

I belive the handgun ban was Labours motive to get elected in 1997 and it was the Tories motive,as a hearts and minds operation, for the victims of Dunblane. The Tories were at the time, were losing many voters, whom supported Labour-instead.

The government knows that it can't stop crooks from getting guns illegally, but this measure was done for public safety and that members of the public are fearful of gunowners anyway.

I'm not familiar with Ryan's history, but Hamilton definitely displayed severe mental problems for some time before his rampage, along the lines of taking sexually suggestive photos of boys he was supposed to be working with. It's my understanding that there were police who didn't think he should be allowed to work with young people, but nothing was done. I'd be very surprised to hear that Ryan didn't show any signs of mental illness before his rampage. It's extremely rare for a normal person to just "snap."

I'm not sure about Ryan either, info seems to be sketchy but I have heard that he literally just 'snapped'. People did say he 'showed an unhealthy interest in militaria', wearing camo to the range and the like, but (although I don't wear camo) you could say that about me and I'm not about to go on the rampage :p

There were repeated warnings from members of the public (including gun club members) about Hamilton's unsuitability to hold an FAC. These warnings were ignored entirely and the officer responsible retired on a full pension.

At the time, Labour toted the handgun ban as a measure to cut crime. Psycho killings were mentioned too, but they did claim it would stop ordinary criminals from commiting crimes.

Not only was the handgun ban an obscene violation of my rights and the rights of every other British citizen, it was completely useless. If a madman wants to kill a dozen kids now he can simply buy a gun illegally, or he can legally purchase a shotgun or rifle, or he can make petrol bombs or molotov cocktails or get himself a sword or axe. Though it is not the fault of the handgun ban itself, schools and the public at large are utterly defenceless against madmen like Hamilton and Ryan, and ordinary criminals.

Like the non-.22 rf SLR ban, and like every other piece of weapons related legislation in this country, it was a useless piece of law that served only to victimise law abiding citizens, both in law and in the eye of the public.

We all know that Blair and New Labour are a bunch of liars and that they even admitted that the 1997 ban,has done nothing to cut violent crime-at all-despite these claims,at the time. They told this to the Sportsman Association and BASC.

However they also stated that they didn't want another spree-killing to occur with pistols,so that is their new justification,of why we can't own pistols-at all.Not suprisingly there are alot of people in Scotland who remember Dunblane and who vote for Labour-so these people will make quite a stink,if the ban is reversed,by the current and any future government.

Those people, who I mentioned are probably:members of or supporters of,the Gun Control Network and Mothers Against Guns(UK).

While I sympathize to a degree with our Brit cousins' feelings, my observation and experience leads me to believe that societies, and the people who compose them, get to live with the types of social behavior that they will tolerate.

What I don't understand is why a rational people would allow the implementation of social and legal policies which seem to be designed to foster and protect the types of behavior which will inevitably render their own living conditions intolerable.
