I recently acquired an older good condition Smith&Wesson .38Special revolver.Has 4" bbl.,flat butt.No model number but serial number is C11360.
Obviously this one is pre-dating the model numbered revolvers.
Can anyone give me an approximate model name and/or date of manufacture?
Thank you.

Stan

Sounds like a Military & Police model, which later became the model 10.

1948 - 1951 serial number range:
C1 thru C223,998.

Any closer then that will require you letter it with S&W.

C1 was 1948.
I'd say his probably was a year or so later.

And wherever you got that letter is wrong.
S&W serial numbers never exceeded Letter Prefex-999999, or six digits. There isn't enough room on the butt or inside the crane cut for a 1 million plus serial number.

The C prefex ended in 1967, and the D prefex started in 1968.
