I was on Gun Broker and was amazed how many names this Black Powder
guns have (Armisport, London Armory, Fara Gardone, Jp Murray, FIE, L Fever,
Euroarms, etc.) Who are all this people and are they reputable manufacturers. Which one's are importers and what companys do they import for? There's even a few from Japan. Please exclude T/C this is just for the one's that are made abroad. Are the one's with a person's name on them custom build by the same person. Thanks

Most guns IE revolvers come from just a very small handfull of manufactures. From there when they are sent out. Some people add thier own names to them or change the names. The most common manufactures you will find are Pietta, Uberti and Armi San Marco. However from this pietta will commonly have FIE or FLPietta on thier guns. Armi San Marco will commonly have ASM on them. However some companies have filed down the A and added an A after the M making is SMA Stone Mountain Arms offere through CVA. Gardone commonly refers to the place of origin where the proofing is done. The prooofing is in the steel of the gun. Now on some of the older guns pre 1970 you have to be carefull as there are a bunch of other manufactures however the quality of some of these are pretty poor. I would stay away from most of them.

The spectrum continues even more. As Uberti guns sold to the USA are stamped Cimmaron Arms. However some of these places like Cimmaron Arms require a higher standard of finish and you are usually getting a better quality gun. For the most part most of us just stick with guns from Pietta and Uberti as these are still in production and parts are readily available. Unlike others that are getting harder to find.

It's a real rat warren.

You've got the name of the firm that made the gun that the repro is a copy of. J.P. Murray is an example of that. Then you have the company that imported the repro. Navy Arms would be an example. And then you get to the company that manufactured the gun, such as Uberti.

And then the users like to forget all about the fact that a gun is a repro or import and call it a "Remington" or a "Colt", as if it were really a part of history.
