Marine from Maine accidentally shot
Saturday,May15,2004,10:25 AM

AUGUSTA (AP) -- A 22-year-old Marine from Maine who spent two months as a scout sniper in Iraq is listed in serious condition after he was accidentally shot by a law enforcement officer during a training exercise in Florida.

Corporal Eric Verhille was shot in the chest last week while working as an instructor during a training session for a dozen officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

According to initial reports, four officers with long guns and handguns cleared one room and entered a second in which a shot was fired and Verhille was hit.

The Marine's father, Gary Verhille, a high school teacher in Gardiner, said his son was in a situation where live ammunition was being fired, and one trainer took him for a target.

Why is FL Fish and Wildlife getting SWAT training?

Man, where you been? Osama Yo Mamma has a major recruiting drive under way for possums, gators and coyotes. There is even a rumor that the last cougar attack in Cali was a scout looking for the best place to attack a herd of poodles.

Homeland Security will never see that coming.

Why does the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission need to know how to sweep and clear rooms?

The officer needs hung and used for gator bait!

Preacherman, I do not believe it specified that he was hit with a pistol round. They were carrying rifles as well.

Who knows, they could have been using those super-duper "cop killer" bullets, too. ;)
