Took a trip saturday to the recently opened Marine museum near the Marine base in Quantico Va. Anyone travelling on 95 should stop by and check it out. Admission is free so no complaints about price! There are several weapons displays. I saw 2 1941 Johnson semi-auto rifles and 2 reising sub machine guns, one with a folding para style stock. Also on display is a Boys anti tank rifle, never seen one up close, AWESOME!, that thing is massive. One disturbing display was of a G.I. holding an M1 on which, I guess for safety reasons, the bolt and trigger guard had been epoxied shut !!! For $5 you can shoot an AR15 for score on a simulated range. There is a lot there to see and do and, having never served, just a lot of the awe and respect feeling I always get thinking about what all of these guys have done, THANKS to all of you out there! Oh yeah if you do get to visit leave any weapons in your car, even a pocket knife it will save you a walk back to put it away. Security looks like that of my local courthouse, metal detectors and all.

I'd like to visit there, but I never will.
A few years ago I shot the Reising. It belonged to a old fellow that had bought it brand new, many years ago.
The Marines weren't very well armed with that gun.

Yes, I think everyone that has a chance should visit military museums like that.

As a former Marine Sergeant, 1955-1963 I'm proud of our history and of today's US Marines.

How is the rest of the museum? I saw some web posts about it and was considering a trip this summer. I did the rest of the DC area, including air and space, some years ago so the Marine museum would be the only reason I would be going.

How were the displays? Was it informative? Fun?

Were there movies? How were they?

I visited the museum at Parris Island while on vacation. Lots of weapons, but all were disabled:( Even some captured enemy weapons.

Very interesting to see all of the displays.

The museum is outstanding! You will need to allow about 2 hours for a rush job and four or so hours to "see it all ". There is alot of reading and many movies. Dioramas are all around, some life size. Many airplanes, weapons, tanks, an Ontos even, get yelled at by a DI, try out the M16 (simulated), go ashore on a landing craft, land by helicopter at firebase in Vietnam. The opening movie made my 59 year old Army veteran brother choke up.

Very well done, very easy to get to, very thourough, good grub offered too. The Marines have much to be proud of. I've been twice. I rate it two bayonets up!
