This may have already been posted, if so please delete. Just read on FoxNews that the Marines have placed an order with Colt for 12000 1911's to the tune of $22.5M. Stated they were not happy with the accuracy nor the stopping power of the Beretta M9's. Glad to see the old war horse back as the side arm of at least 1 branch of our service.

Hmm. Don't know why they didn't go with glock 21 as it is easier to field strip, no break in period, and less prone to failure from sand, etc.. Guess they just want to keeps the jobs in america

That is correct the pistols are destined for MARSOC and MEU-SOC units that are currently fielding various pistols including many kimbers that they apparently weren't to thrilled with.

Already discussed here.

Salient points: Colt was competitively awarded an Indefinite Delivery-Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for the Close Quarter Battle Pistol plus spare parts and logistical support. The CQBP replaces the 1911-based M-45 MEU(SOC) pistol built by Marine armorers and already in use by the Marine's Force Recon Team. It is a high grade 1911, corrosion resistant (stainless steel), special recoil mechanism, rail, special SOCOM finish, and beveled magazine well.
