Marketing Strategy

Co-branding is what we need.

A Yamaha "race-gun" or a Remington tool-set.

It will spark interest in people from other non-gun walks of life. Put that foot halfway in the door to their first gun purchase.

Things like this would turn guns into just another product rather than the mystical and novel "killing machines" the media makes them out to be. The gun industry is somewhat good at marketing to us, but they are W-E-A-K at penetrating new markets.

There are a variety of Marketing 101 ways to do that. They just need to do it.

Another easy thought....

With all the shoot 'em up style video games, a quick gun safety message "sponsored by your friends at the NRA" would hit the target market.

How do I start...

I'm a marketer. I work in advertising and do logos, branding, etc., for my work. The problem isn't with guns or marketing them; it's with Joe and Suzy American buying into the idiot claptrap that the antis feed them. Lots of them do outdoors things themselves... some even shoot or have shot, and have fond memories of it. But you ask them, "do you have a gun? Do you still shoot?" and they say "No." You have Hollywood celebrities who love to shoot and have collections of guns keeping their mouths shut because it's not PC to tell people about your love of busting clays or whacking gongs.

There's the difference between the HD example and us shooters... HD has become the expression of freedom and everyone from your rich uncle to your fat bearded neighbor have one now. They may own guns, but they're quiet about it - to be fair, so am I. I simply don't want to announce it and become a victim of theft because of it.

More to come; I need to think about this one a while. That, and dinner's on. ; )

I could be wrong, but I think the reason most fence sitters (and by that, I mean people who are neither die hard pro-gun, nor die hard anti-gun) are not into shooting is because, though many gun enthusiasts try to persuade them, people get too political and/or serious about it. For example, when somebody says "Why do you own guns?" many people on THR respond with something along the lines of "Because it's our 2nd amendment right" or "Because I have the right to protect me and my family", and although that is absolutely true, this often makes fence-sitters go :scrutiny:. Believe me, most of the time all these people are looking for is a simple "Because shooting is fun." Emphasize the fun aspect of it, not the politics. This is the sort of thing that gets people to the range in the first place, and that is half the battle.
