Hello all,

I've got an 1894 marlin lever gun chambered in .25-20. The rifle has "Marlin Safety" inscribed on the top of the receiver, and has a serial # of 1009XX. I'd like to know its date of manufacture and approx. worth. enclosed is a pic. Thanks all.

I entered the whole serial# into the oldguns site, and received the reply that it is a first production run rifle. 1894 it is!

It seems B. Adams and I were reading different parts of the site. If you enter the serial# into the box for 1894 rifles, the date of mfg shows 1894, if you enter it into the box for model 39's and others, it shows 1990.

Yeah, for some reason I read "Marlin Safety" and though of a modern bolt safety, so I entered it in the more modern category. I should have probably looked at the caliber. 25-20, and realized that it's probably not a modern gun if it's in that caliber.

My bet is that it's 1894 manufacture, and that it's worth quite a bit.

Thanks for the replies. So, anybody know of a good place to ascertain the value of the gun? It's fully functional, but has no bluing left, stock is original, and is missing the elevation ramp for the rear sight. Any help would be appreciated.
