Marlin 1894

I am looking for a 1894 cowboy 45 colt, what is a good price for a new or used one?? I found a new one with a 20 inch octagon barrel, first two numbers of serial are 91 what year is this, they have $899 on it. Also are these later model ones as good as the older ones with the 24 inch barrel. I am not going too use this for cowboy shooting.

based on the serial number its an 09, take the first two digets from the sn and subtract from 100 and you get the year of manufacture, from the 70's newer that is. dont know on the price, good luck and dont mess with the rest of them get the marlin

i have one in 44 mag. and used it for SASS. $899 seems a bit high to me but i bought mine new about 10 years ago @ around $450 IIRC. you can slickem' up a bit but a marlin is a marlin. what i mean by that is they are super leliable and believe me that is more important than speed. you can loose a match because your equipment is too far over the edge. you can make a 73' run faster but that costs money and there are more moving parts.
knowing what i know now i would be more interested in a 94' in .357 for your purpose. it's faster and cheaper to run and you will burn through a lot of ammo. still, i'd be hard pressed to pay more than $600 for either.

What about the ones that have the 24 inch hex barrel, I think maybe they are older models. The serial # starts with a 0404xxx and one with 302xxx.

WOW... these things hold their price quite well!

as long as you can load 10 rounds in you rifle you're are good for SASS. the 20" barrels will do that for you. mine is the CB version w/ a longer barrel. some of the best shooters i've ever seen used the 94' CB in .357 with 20" barrels. both Evil Roy and grand daughter Holy Terror used them to win quite a few matches.

Sounds really high, paid $500 for mine only three years ago.

Marlin wants a LOT of money for that octagon barrel. I love mine, but it was pricey. I think I paid well over $650 for the cowboy model, which was a full $200 more than a standard 1894.

Probably because they get their octagon barrels from Badger.

you have the 24 inch model or the 20 inch model? I have an old model 39 that shoots well, would hope the new marlin would be as good.
