Just saw the new 1895GG SBL with the six round magazine. I wonder if the new mag can be ordered from Marlin and put on the 1895 GG. Any thoughts on this?

I want to say that there is a couple other differences that make the conversion very difficult, but can't remember for sure. FWIW, the magazine only holds one additional round.

I believe that it is 5+1 for a total of 6 in the SBL.

+1 (but with the way things are going today who knows!!)

I was considering the extended magazine for my Guide Gun but with only one extra round and all that work I've decided against it, for now at least. You would have to machine a new dovetail near the muzzle and potentially plug the original dovetail. Not a terrible amount of work but still quite a lot to do in addition to buying the magazine tube and a new spring ... all for one extra round.

Here is a reference for the five+1 capacity: http://www.northamericanwhitetail.co...09/index1.html, but several reviews contradict themselves and Marlin only says 6 (rather than 5+1 or 6+1)...looks like I will just have to buy one to find out.

Mav, the magazine tube on the standard Guide Gun ends approx. 4" from the muzzle of the 18-1/2" barrel. The 1895SBL version also has an 18-1/2" barrel and the magazine tube ends approx. 3/8" before the muzzle. Given that a typical 405gr .45-70 round is just over 2-1/2" long I don't see how +2 is possible.

Abel, I'll have to look into the Brockman/Wild West/Clements versions. I like options.

I had a .45-70 1895G that I considered extending the mag to the end of the barrel. I too finally decided that for one more round it wasn't worth it. Besides I always carried it with 5 of the Buffalo Bore 500gr FMJ. Never felt the need for more than 2500gr's of lead in a gun.

Greebe

I dont know why they didnt just make the magazine flush with the end of the barrel since they first started building them. They could do it with the 22 inch barrel versions as well for yet another extra round.
